It was a cool day. I had trouble staying warm all day. I added layers and that helped. I spent the day mainly outside training on outdoor skills. Always interesting and fun to spend a day learning new skills with adults. The training involved map reading, basic orienteering, outdoor cooking, safety, planning, interpreting weather and a few other things. My favourite cooking piece learned – banana boats. Slice a fresh banana length wise, take a piece out, then stuff it with chocolate chips and miniature marshmallows. Wrap it in tinfoil and place in on hot coals or an outdoor stove. Everything becomes soft and you eat out of the banana with a spoon. When you are cutting the skin keep a piece attached like a hinge. (Don’t eat the skin.) It is super sweet but an easy outdoor treat.
I also ventured into the world of core strength training. Not sure how this will turn out or whether it will take but I do need to widen my training plan beyond the hikes and canoeing I am doing. It is only six months until the ski season starts! I want to be ready for that so I am mixing in some strength training for that as well. It is hard to fit it all in and keep my day job. But it is fun trying.
