A wander through Mapleton on Christmas Eve

by admin on December 24, 2011

After checking my lists twice and ensuring the pantry was full for the coming days events, I took a few minutes to myself and wandered off to Mapleton Park here in Moncton, New Brunswick. A fresh snow had fallen. It has been very warm to date. Winter solititst came and went this week and the day did actually feel longer; perhaps just my imagination.

It was a brisk walk with temperatures hovering around -15ÂșC, plus the wind. It has been one of the really first cold days of winter. I had on my various layers, good practise for the coming days of skiing. The hill apparently opened today, all good.

Being Christmas eve and all, and with the sun slowly setting I had the park to myself. A couple of young runners wisked by as I worked through the snow in nordic walking mode. I was greeted with squirrels, doves and ducks in the setting sun. The sky was orange to peach finishing with a grey blue, framed with black trees. Pines and hardwoods framed the setting sun. Another Kodak moment; sorry no camera this evening.

It felt good to be out. My interim goal is to be out everyday over the next ten days. I have spent too much time in the office over the last few months. I have that yearning to spend more time out doors and stick to my long-term goals. So slip away, slip away all, spend a few quiet moments outdoors over this holiday period! And to all a good night.
